About

The Painted Moth was brought to life by two best friends, artist Katy Casillas-Gray and consultant Theresa Henson.  We began as a small booth inside a vendor mall that showcased Katy's artwork and handmade creations alongside other artisan-made items.  Our vision is to expand into a larger retail offering featuring other artists craftsmanship and small-business hand-made items.  We want to become more than just a marketplace.  We envision ourselves as a gateway to inspiration and a curator of stories.  Our goal is to support small business by building a creative haven alongside our retail space, that fosters a community of artists and makers while inspiring collaboration, learning, and personal growth.

Artist and Owner, Katy L. Casillas-Gray

In my forties, I finally found the courage to follow my creative passions. My journey has been a winding road, marked by career shifts, life changes, and entrepreneurial ventures.

It all began with a dream to share the world of art, as I started my career as an art teacher fresh out of college. Life took a different turn when I married a hairstylist and became an owner of a hair salon. But the artistic flame within me never extinguished, leading me back to school for an esthetician's license.

In my thirties, I ventured into the world of healthy snack foods, only to see it as a short chapter in my story. Remarriage brought me to a farm, where I rekindled my love for art. Along the way, I've started or acquired eight businesses, changed careers four times, and welcomed three wonderful children into my life, all in the backdrop of the beautiful state of Oklahoma.

Today, I'm living my life's vision. The Painted Moth is more than a business; it's a passion project. I'm excited to see it grow, to connect with other creatives, and to nurture a community where artistic dreams can take flight. Join me on this exciting journey of self-expression and creative growth.

“My ultimate goal as an artist is to weave a vibrant tapestry of positive emotions through my abstract and figurative creations. I achieve this by harnessing a kaleidoscope of colors along with a diverse blend of media while creating layers upon the canvas until the emotions within me are spilled out and transformed into a representation of what I experience in my inner world.  I carry the hope that my art, poetry, and classes inspire others to see beauty in their world, choose courage over fear, and treat themselves and others with love."
